Hélène Côté

Fascinated by objects that are part of everyday life, Hélène Côté’s style is a modern melding of the Café lithos of Toulouse Lautrec, the POP silkscreens of Andy Warhol and the abstract paintings of Stuart Davis, creating a distinctive style all her own. No matter the subject, Côté’s prints all have bold flat colors in common, wedged between thick black lines with slivers of white paper animating the space between them. From Heinz Ketchup to Anasazi pottery, her oversized prints elevate those simple objects to near icon status while giving them a vibrancy and humor all her own.

Hélène Côté is a native of Montréal and has exhibited in group shows all over the world, including the prestigious Salon d’Automne in Paris. She’s also a founding member of The Manhattan Graphics Center — an artist-run studio in SOHO. Over the years she has set up studio in Toronto, Paris, New York City, San Francisco, Dallas, Los Angeles and now Berkeley where she is an Artist-In-Residence at the KALA Art Institute.
