Individual Project Space Guideline

We are excited to launch Kala's Project Space Rental program. We have two private studio spaces for rent in our new gallery facility at 2990 San Pablo Ave, Berkeley. These studios facilitate the need of artist to complete a specific project which requires a private studio within Kala's active artist community. The tenant artists will be selected through an application process in which Kala review their proposed project and previous work. As well as the artists currently in the Kala's AIR and Fellowship programs, artists who are not currently affiliated with Kala are also eligible to apply. The tenant artist will have 24 hour access to the studios. Size of Studios

Studio 1: 124 sqf
Studio 2: 126 sqf

Rent

Current AIR: $150/month
Fellowship Artists: Free
Non-Kala Artist: $300/month
(anybody not currently affiliated with Kala, including former AIRs and former Fellowship Artists)

Length of Lease

The length of rental lease is for 1 to 3 months depending on the contents of project

Equipment

Each studio is equipped with a table, a chair and a shelving unit. The artist should provide own tools.

Deadlines come at the same time as the deadline of AIR application. Deadline in this year will be July 31 and October 31.

Submit these materials along with the Application

Project description

• the material, form, technique and conceptual background of your project
• the timeline of the project (specify if the project is for a specific event such as an exhibition, an open studio or a studio visit)
• why it is important to have a studio space particularly at Kala Art Institute
• how you would contribute the Kala community

Visual representation of the project- no more than 5 images in JPEG format

• Sketches of proposed project and/or the images of previous work

Announcement of selection Result

Within 2 or 3 weeks after AIR deadline
