Collaborative Performance with James Sterling Pitt and Danny Paul Grody
Saturday, June 21, 4-7pm
Kala Gallery
2990 San Pablo Ave Berkeley, CA 94702

In his studio practice, James Sterling Pitt records his experience of a time and place in a drawn sketch, and then converts it to sculpture referring to his personal memory of the experience. Over the course of his fellowship at Kala, Pitt has been working collaboratively with musician Danny Paul Grody. Together, they have recorded sound and image in both natural and constructed locations, including Mineral Springs in Tilden Park and Battery Townsley in the Marin Headlands. In addition to field recordings, they have documented spontaneous sounds made during Pitt’s process of drawing, painting, and printmaking in his project space at Kala. The recordings they have made over this time have been reworked by each artist, built upon, and folded back into their collaborative work.
