Parent Artist Residency Program
We recognize that each artist-family has its own set of challenges when seeking a residency program. Families with multiple children of varying ages have different requirements than families with older, more independent children. By offering a flexible residency experience in addition to our standard residency programs, we hope to create multiple entry points for artists to create artwork amidst the ever-evolving and diverse demands of family life. The Parent Artist Residency Program at Kala is generously supported by the Sustainable Arts Foundation.

The Award
Kala is pleased to offer a fourth round of Parent Artist Residency Awards in 2016. We will be choosing eight recipients and each parent artist awardee will be able to create an individual residency plan with up to $1000 worth of services that cover the residency, classes, Camp Kala for their children, or consulting with Kala staff about professional development opportunities. By offering flexible residency options with additional services, we hope to create multiple entry points for artists to create artwork amidst the ever-evolving and diverse demands of family life.

How to Apply

Artists with children under 18 interested in the Parent Artist Residency Program can submit an application two ways: Artists can apply through either our Fellowship Award program (deadline June 17) or our AIR program (deadline July 15). For example, if you are an artist interested in both the Fellowship Award and the Parent Residency Award, you only need to apply through the Fellowship Program. However, if you are only interested in the Parent Artist Residency Program, please submit an application through the AIR Program July 15 deadline.

Eligible applicants will be determined in each pool and reviewed together following the July 15 deadline. Awardees will be selected and notified by August 15, 2016.
