Jenny Robinson’s monotypes and monoprints convey a strong atmosphere of time and place, often of scenes taken from urban environments in major cities such as London, New York and San Francisco. The inherent spontaneity of her medium allows her to work unhindered by more complex printmaking methods, and to concentrate on textures and the overlaying of inks, to create deep saturated colors and marks.
Her main subject matter has included monumental and landmark structures, as well as overlooked, mundane and everyday urban scenes such as bridges, gasometers and overpasses. Many of these neglected old structures remain standing and deteriorating, still part of our everyday environment.
Robinson studied for her BA Fine Art Printmaking at WSCAD in Surrey UK. A full time painter/printmaker, she moved to from England to San Francisco in 2000, where she now lives. She regularly exhibits in London and California. She is a current Artist-in Residence at Kala.
