Originally from Hawaii, Gary Nakamoto received his BFA at California College of the Arts in Oakland and his MFA at the Art Institute of Chicago. Focusing on public events such as film screenings, religious ceremonies, performances, as well as human and animal surgeries, Nakamoto uses a single exposure to record the duration of an event. He was awarded a Kala Fellowship in 2005.
