Squeak Carnwath
Squeak Carnwath’s works are ruminations - on time, place and meaning. Her paintings and prints draw upon the philosophical and mundane ideas, experiences and objects of daily life and are recognizable for their distinctly personal vocabulary, combining lush fields of color with original and found text, repeated patterns, and identifiable images.
Squeak Carnwath’s work is exhibited widely, both nationally and internationally, and is in the collections of many major institutions. In 2009, The Oakland Museum of California organized a large survey of her work, Squeak Carnwath: Painting is no Ordinary Object. A teacher at the University of California, Berkeley for over twenty years and now an honored Professor Emeritus, Carnwath is represented in San Francisco by John Berggruen Gallery.
