This course will unlock the fundamental concepts of repeat pattern design and get you started in designing wallpapers and surface designs using your own imagery. The class will demonstrate the ways in which a single motif, when subjected to various systems of arrangement through repeat, yields an astonishing array of effects and abstract visual phenomenon.

Anthony Ryan received his MFA in Printmaking from San Francisco State University and his BFA from SUNY Purchase. His prints and paintings have been exhibited nationally including at the MH deYoung Memorial Museum and at the Nueberger Museum of Art. He has taught at the Academy of Art University and California State Summer School of the Arts. A 2006 recipient of the Murphy Graduate Fellowship in the Fine Arts from the San Francisco Foundation, Anthony was be a Graduate Fellow at the Headlands Center for the Arts in the Spring of 2009. He currently teaches printmaking at San Francisco State University. www.anthonydanielryan.com
