In this workshop you will learn about various venues to exhibit your work, including non-profit and commercial spaces. Learn how to prepare a professional and clear exhibition proposal that includes digital images, a proposal statement, and other supporting materials.
Lauren Davies is Kala's Director of Exhibitions and Public Programs and a San Francisco artist whose work focuses on our strained relationship to the natural world. Combining mixed-media sculpture and installations with drawing, Davies meshes dark humor with a “do-it-yourself” approach to materials and construction. Curiosity about slightly oddball hobbies and vocations such as correspondence course taxidermy and pedigreed dog breeding has been explored as subject matter. Scientific processes involving the counting of elements found in the natural world is also a preoccupation. Specific subject matter aside, each of these various projects combine labor-intensive studio processes with unusual materials. www.laurendaviesprojects.com
Carrie Hott is the Program Coordinator for Artist Residencies and Classes at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, CA, as well as a visual artist and educator. Her work has been exhibited at galleries and non-profits in Arizona, Germany, the UK, and most recently at and Adobe Books Backroom Gallery in San Francisco, CA and Cosign Projects in St. Louis, MO. She received her B.F.A. from Arizona State University in 2003 and her M.F.A. from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2007. Since receiving her MFA, Hott has taught in the community education and undergraduate departments at the San Francisco Art Institute. In 2009, she co-founded the Royal NoneSuch Gallery in Oakland, CA, a community event and experimental art project space. Prior to her position at Kala, she worked in the Development department and coordinated the student committee at the UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive. www.carriehott.com
