Museum by Tina Howe Directed by:
Stephanie Ren้e Maysonave
Featuring an impressive cast of 38 performers! Aficionados, snobs, obnoxious college girls, and a disgruntled security guard scrutinize a modern art exhibit on its final day. Performed in actual museums throughout the Bay Area, 38 actors grace the "stage" prodding conceptual art as they observe three seemingly blank canvases and paper human figures hanging from a clothesline accompanied by a bowl of clothespins, which no one can seem to keep their hands off of. Tickets: $19 To purchase tickets visit www.boxcartheatre.org or
call 1.800.838.3006 ***We encourage our patrons to sit, stand and move around. We have a limited number of benches, but also provide stools and pillows for those who ask. The performance is 75 minutes. Due to the unique nature of this event, we strongly encourage reservations ahead of time. |

Alex Benedict began working
through Kala Art Institute eight years ago to fully explore a process
of juxtaposing digital photographic images with his poetry. The physical
enjoyment of working with presses led to further study in intaglio, monotype,
and other means of creating an interaction of concepts with a variety
of media. His current project involves large scale printing on canvas
of images which are a result of operations of formal geometry and probability,
color, and perception. The process of generating and manipulating the
images engages Alex’s knowledge of mathematics, computer science
and digital photography. Nancer Le Moins has been teaching art in the Bay
Area for 20 years and is especially interested in community based and
activist art. She has been an artist in residence at Kala for 10 years
and works primarily as a printmaker and painter. Her work for the past
few years has been motivated by environmental and social issues but
remains solidly personal. Nancer will be showing slides from several
recent series and discussing the fine line between getting
a point across with grace and beauty and not being didactic. |

Kala is pleased to present Green House Britain, an exhibition by Newton and Helen Mayer Harrison, a collaborative team who has been internationally respected as pioneers of the eco-art movement for nearly forty years. Their impassioned works serve as both a meditation on global ecology and also as a futuristic vision for environmental change and recovery. Perhaps best known in Europe, The Harrisons have an extensive resume
of international exhibitions and public projects. They are both Professors
Emeritus at the University of California, San Diego and have been represented
by Ronald Feldman Gallery in New York since 1974. The Harrisons currently
live in Santa Cruz. The public is cordially invited to a reception in honor of the Harrisons on December 10 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Kala Gallery. Exhibition and Artists’ Conversation sponsored by Bayer USA Foundation |

Class #95: November 14-15: Saturday Sunday 10am 4pm

Students will be provided with the knowledge needed to use this medium in their own studio. Hylla Evans is a paint maker for Evans Encaustics, teaches painting extensively in the Bay Area, New York, and Amsterdam, and for the last two years has been an Expert at the National Encaustic Conference at Montserrat College of Art in Massachusetts.
