Balancing Acts
Kala Art Institute is excited to present Balancing Acts by Beth Fein at Milvia/Addison Windows located at 2100 Milvia Street, Berkeley.
“These sculptures began with discarded wood scraps from a small family owned woodworking shop in Sonoma County. The process for the work was conceived by first finding the possibilities of configuring one form to hold the other. the small sculptures of reclaimed wood evolved into these larger versions with the edition of scrap metal and stone.
The wood surfaces have been inked as mono-type matrices (printing plates) and maintain remnants of those colors. Additional monotype and pochoir prints are added back onto the surfaces of some of the wood.
The balancing is both literal and figurative This work references both the chances and the choices that cross our paths as we negotiate the current world we live in.”
