Community Art Workshop: Lunar New Year 2024
SAVE THE DATE! Saturday, February 3 from 12-3 pm
Lunar New Year brings families and friends together to celebrate the new year. In this workshop, participants will create bead embroidery artworks inspired by The Year of the Dragon and other cultural symbols we recognize as part of this celebration. Artist Demetri Broxton and Kala staff will facilitate this community art workshop.

*This community workshop is open for all ages (5 yrs+). Children must be accompanied by an adult. Mask-wearing indoors is optional for all visitors in Kala’s gallery and community classroom. Space limited.
Demetri Broxton (he/him) is a mixed media artist of Louisiana Creole and Filipino heritage, born and raised in Oakland, CA. His textile sculptures reflect his connection to the sacred art of the Yoruba people of Nigeria, the beading traditions of the New Orleans Mardi Gras Indians, and his love of hip hop and graffiti. Braxton holds a BFA with an emphasis in oil painting from UC Berkeley (2002) and an MA in Museum Studies from San Francisco State University (2020). His work has been exhibited internationally and most recently at UNTITLED Art Fair (Miami), Marin MOCA, the Chinese Historical Society of America, the de Young Museum, and the Crocker Art Museum. His work is held in several private collections and the permanent collections of the Monterey Art Museum, de Young Museum, and the Crocker Art Museum. He is represented by Patricia Sweetow Gallery in Los Angeles, CA.
