INTRODUCTION TO INDESIGN: Creating A Portfolio

This course will teach you how to create a universal digital file that can be used for online publishing, or for publishing your own artist book. Adobe InDesign is the standard for publishing and page layout application because of its integration with other Adobe programs. This class introduces students to the InDesign interface and its various tools. Topics covered in this class include tools, use of the Master document, type and text flow, paragraph formatting, and handling pictures. Students will explore these tools by creating a simple portfolio of work. Bring images and text to make portfolio pages and a CD-R to take your files home. Enrollment limited to 5 students. Basic knowledge of Macintosh and Photoshop required. Materials fee to be paid at end of class, depending on amount printed.

Mayumi Hamanaka is a photography and installation artist. She received her MFA from California College of the Arts and her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is the recipient of the Murphy Fellowship Award, Taipei Artist Village Fellowship, and others. Her work has been shown at the San Francisco Art Commission Gallery, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Mission 17, Swarm Gallery in Oakland, and Asian American Art Center in NY, among others. She currently teaches at Diablo Valley College.
