EXPANDING THE VISION:
FACILITY EXPANSION PROJECT

June 25, 2010

Dear Kala Community:

We are thrilled to share with you the great news that
we have reached Kala’s Facility Expansion Project Capital Campaign goal of $997,500! On behalf of the Kala Art Institute Board of Directors, staff and affiliated artists, we extend our deepest appreciation to all our donors who contributed to the success of the Expanding the Vision campaign. Thank you!

It certainly hasn’t been easy, in this challenging economic climate, to raise the capital and increased operational funds required to expand both Kala’s facility and programs. Yet the results are well worth the effort.

Kala’s expanded facility with its stunning new 2,200 sq. ft. gallery is attracting an increased number of visitors and new audiences to our exhibitions and public programs. With the new classroom we have increased the number of open enrollment community classes from 70 in 2008 to 118 in 2010, and we are now offering Artists-in-Schools teacher training classes, student art exhibitions and an onsite summer arts program for youth. The Mercy and Roger Smullen Print & Media Study Center is the perfect showcase to view artwork on consignment and for Kala's 2,500 + piece art collection, allowing it to be accessible for scholarly study by conservationists, educators and curators. The three artist project rooms are in constant use by our resident and guest artists for both production and presentation of their work. As well, Kala's new facility is a popular venue used by other arts organizations to host their community events.

All of these exciting activities are now possible because of the facility expansion that provides the needed open space and visibility for our public programs, and at the same time increases the studio space for Artists-in-Residence.

We thank each and every one of you for your contribution and for your belief in Expanding the Vision of Kala Art Institute.

Our sincere gratitude,
