Kala Art Institute’s mission is to help artists sustain their creative work over time through its Artist-in-Residence and Fellowship Programs, and to engage the community through exhibitions, public programs, and education.

The heart of Kala’s mission as a vital, California art-making hub is supporting artists and engaging the community. Kala offers professional facilities to those working in and across printmaking and digital media, installation, sound, and performance.

Kala Art Institute is located in Huichin, the home territory of Chochenyo speaking Ohlone people, on unceded Lisjan Ohlone land. Read more.

Fund For The Future

As Kala’s 50th anniversary approaches (1974-2024), we’re ready to celebrate this special occasion raising $250,000 to support Kala’s core programs – artist residencies, arts education, exhibitions and public programs and creating the FUND FOR THE FUTURE to raise an additional $250,000 for capacity building, renovating art-making space, and buying new equipment.

KALA 50 – Exhibition and Auction Benefit

KALA 50 Art Auction Benefit & 50th Anniversary Party
Thursday, March 21 – Saturday, April 27, 2024

Kala Art Institute and Honorary Chairs Squeak Carnwath and Richard Nagler invite you to join us for KALA 50, an exhibition, auction, and benefit to support Kala.

Celebrating Kala’s 50th year, KALA 50  brings together Kala’s creative community and features the inventive and meaningful art being made right here in the Bay Area. We are thrilled this year to celebrate David Huffman, Emily Payne, and Rupy C. Tut as the 2024 honored artists.

Kala’s 50th anniversary is a very special milestone, the auction is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and the auction directly supports Kala’s arts education, artist residencies, and exhibition programs.
